With the new 3G iPhone price starting from $199, it seems like a bargain compared to $399 iPhone price. However be aware! If you are purchasing data plan from AT&T, you probably noticed that data plan has been increased to $30 from $20 a month, like it was before. In a 2 year plan that adds up to an extra $240. Strangely AT&T charges extra $5 per month for 200 SMS messages. In a 2 year period that adds up to another $120.

Still after 2 years total spending adds up to $160 more than with the original iPhone. A small increase compared to the features you get. Also once it will be possible to unlock iPhone 3G, one will be able to change providers, saving an extra buck.
