This geek’s SingTel contract was up for renewal and since I had enough of new mobile phones for a while and wasn’t a huge fan of the iPhone, I decided to let a buddy use my contract renewal to get the coveted phone of his dreams–what else but the 3G iPhone.

I heard all about the mayhem and long queues at the SingTel retail shops before that, so I made him queue up first while I took my own sweet time to arrive :p I’m doing him a favor anyway!
Although I told myself I’m happy with my BlackBerry Curve (which all these pictures were taken from), still my geeky heart was tempted when we got hold of the phone.

For a while there, I contemplated backing out of my deal with this buddy and just keep the phone for myself. He can go sign another line with SingTel
But then again, what are buddies for?
Although I did not see the long queue when I arrived (this buddy had done all the queuing), there were still a lot of people.

Clearly, this geek didn’t understand the madness of it all.
Anyway, SingTel had like a giant iPhone to entertain all the waiting peeps.

As well as a few sample sets in the waiting lobby.

They even provided a class on how to use the iPhone!

Imagine, there was a long queue even at the accessories outlet.

Conversation at the cashier:
Customer: (Puts down a bunch of iPhone accessories at the cashier counter after almost an hour of queuing just at the cashier.)
Cashier: (Nonchalantly) Just these, no iPhone, right? (The iPhones are booked at the service counters and collected from the cashier).
Customer: No, no, no! Got iPhone, got iPhone!! (Pointing frantically to a stack of iPhones behind the cashier.)
Geek bystander to customer: (Almost fell to floor laughing.) Did they REALLY think you queued all that time just to buy some iPhone accessories without the iPhone?
Customer: *rolls eyes*
Clearly not amused with all that queuing, I guess?
