Gizmodo says 2.1 firmware fixes most 3G iPhone bugs

This is very anecdotal reporting, but Gizmodo says the new iPhone firmware has dramatically improved the performance of the 3G iPhone.

Better signal strength, better call quality, faster syncing, less lag, all good.

Oddly, the site does report that data transfer speeds seem to be slower with the new software, which makes Web browsing a bit pokier.

Still, it seems fast enough.

Assuming these findings hold up, I’m willing to recommend the 3G iPhone to average buyers now (yes, I know the entire tech community was waiting with bated breath for me to weigh in on this).

But does the lower Web speed invalidate the “Twice as fast. Half the price.” ad?
