New iPhone Solutions Enable Mobile Network Operators to Provide Branded Services for iPhone Customers
DUBLIN, Ireland, Oct 09, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Critical Path, Inc, a leading provider of messaging software and services, today announced the availability of its iPhone solutions — native client applications for the iPhone that provide immediate value by extending portal services to the device.
The iPhone represents an important strategic opportunity for its franchisees. Operators benefit from lower customer acquisition costs through the free publicity generated by the iPhone product launch, access to high value customers and premium-charge device and data plans. In addition, there is a new opportunity for operators to extend relationships with their iPhone customers by providing access to their mobile services through branded applications available on the App Store.
With this in mind, Critical Path developed iPhone solutions to enable operators to maintain customer mindshare and define a presence on the iPhone, thereby enabling franchisees to more fully take advantage of the rewards the iPhone offers. The solution was developed at the Critical Path iPhone Competence Center.
Based in Turin, Italy, the Center was established in 2007 to develop new applications for advanced mobile device platforms like the iPhone and Android.
With Critical Path’s iPhone solutions, an operator gets a branded presence on the iPhone, providing a “launch pad” to other services from the device. The launch pad also provides the facility to add on features allowing customers to access the operator portal, customer care, media albums and other services. As part of the application, any contacts that are added, deleted or modified on the iPhone are automatically updated on the operator’s network address book. This allows the customer to leverage other operator branded services, such as photo-sharing, using the address book. To ensure the application is always up to date, the customer receives the latest software updates each time they log in to the App Store through iTunes(R). Other applications to be released for the iPhone include extending portal services for photos, videos and location.
