Google Introduces Localized iPhone Ads

Posted in iPhone News by admin. Published October 14th, 2008

Google’s iPhone competitor Android may be doing gangbusters in pre-order sales (1.5 million and counting), but that’s not going to stop the search giant from making a few dollars from Apple’s competing smart phone. Google today announced the launch of iPhone specific ad capabilities.

From AdWeek:

“In meetings with agencies, Google has presented a new option to show different ads in response to searches made from iPhones. The change, expected to be implemented shortly, means advertisers will be able to create an iPhone ad group as part of their regular search campaign, according to agency executives briefed about the modification.”

Unlike other smart phones, that access the mobile Web, the iPhone pulls up a version of the Internet similar to what can be viewed on a computer, complete with its non-localized advertising. The option will enable Google to sell advertisers iPhone targeted ads, making a big step into mobile ad relevance going forward and creating some more competition for smaller ad companies that specialize in mobile.
