Erica Sadun might know more about the iPhone than anyone outside of Apple. I guess this shouldn’t be a surprise, she’s got a Doctorate in Computer Science from Georgia Tech so she’s pretty smart.

How smart? Smart enough to discover an undocumented video out features in the iPhone SDK. Check out the post at Ars. If you just want to see what the fuss is about watch the video.

For a lot of folks that would be enough. They’d discover something like that, buy a couple of cases of beer and walk around in awe of themselves for a few months.

Is the goodness done? Of course not. The best thing about this kind of hacking is that it inspires other people. And the inspired people might do something really unexpected with the newfound knowledge like playing Doom on an Apple II monitor via the iPhone. The last entry is especially use because it details how you can try this out for yourself. Well, you can if you’re a developer anyway. But hey that is only $99 a year so why not take the plunge?

More interesting than what Erica and associates pulled off is what this means for the future of the iPhone. Is there anything the iPhone can’t do? Well, besides cut and paste.
