The iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of QuickPwn, their freeware hack that allows you to jailbreak the latest version (v2.2.1) of the iPhone firmware. This software enables you to run unauthorized third party programs on your iPhone — but does not actually unlock it (check our hacking guide for explanations of all this technical lingo).

As usual, iPhoneWorld.ca brings you a local mirror of this download. However, before downloading and running it, please consult the official release notes below.

(note: Windows version of QuickPwn is coming soon)

A new version of iPhone firmware is now available. iPhone firmware v2.2.1 is the latest firmware revision for both the original (firstgen) and the iPhone 3G.
According to Apple, this new update improves the general stability of Safari, fixes an issue with photos saved from Mail, and also fixes an issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio files to skip during playback.
Posts on Apple’s official iPhone forums suggest that this new firmware upgrade may have also fixed a problem that some folks were having with SMS messages errors.

However, apparently this upgrade causes problems with Yellowsn0w, the iPhone 3G unlock tool. More on this later.
