Fans of quirky, disturbing pet simulation games have no doubt been waiting for the eventual release of Seaman creator Yutaka Saito’s upcoming iPhone game GABO! Unfortunately, a recent blog post by Saito (translated by Offworld) suggests that though the game has been finished, Apple has put the release on hold due to “expressed displeasure” with the interactions in the game. Apparently the company isn’t a big fan of poking cavemen.
But in much better news, Saito also revealed that the team behind GABO! is now working on a new version of Seaman for another touch screen enabled platform: the Nintendo DS. Though no actual details were revealed, the combination of a touch screen and built in microphone could make the DS a perfect platform for a new Seaman game. Let’s just hope that Nintendo doesn’t find man-fish poking inappropriate.
It’s disappointing to hear that GABO! may not see a release, especially considering the fact that development has already been finished. Hopefully something can be worked out with Apple in the future without changing the original vision of the game too much. Meanwhile, fans should stay tuned for news of the DS version, which seems much more likely to see a release.
