Facebook Connect allows Apple iPhone and iPod Touch users to enable third party applications through its social networking platform. The new app has debuted today which expands normal services to be mobile and on the move.
Facebook Inc announced its latest application for the Apple Inc’s iPhone and iPod Touch dubbed Connect. The new social networking app enables mobile users to connect with friends and play games while on the move. The company debuted it’s new iPhone app with nine other applications that use the new platform.
“For the first time, your iPhone apps can now have friends,” Facebook senior platform manager Dave Morin said in a statement.
Facebook Connect was unveiled over the weekend at the South By Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. The audience comprised of software makers who began testing the new platform, “It opens up so many new opportunities, said Jim Myers who attended the panel talk.
The Facebook Connect application originally launched last year as a way to share social networking services from Facebook to other Web sites. Up to the present moment, there hasn’t been an application to bring Apple’s iPhone community into the Facebook realm. The new app can be used by mobile phones users to play games and other software, they would normally play from their home computer.
With the growing trend of social networking tools for mobile phones, there is also the Facebook vs Twitter debate. While Twitter is rapidly growing, Facebook is still the top performer when it comes to updating pages and status. However, these studies were done earlier before Twitter became so popular in early 2009.
There is a certain degree of loyalty among Facebook and Twitter users. Those who prefer Twitter enjoy it for it’s fast one-liner status messages. Facebook users brag about an entire universe of games, photos, and expanded publishing abilities.
Facebook Connect for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch also includes nine new applications.
Nine applications were debuted with the new Facebook Connect platform including Agency Wars, Binary Game, iBowl, Live Poker, Tap Tap Revenge 2, Urbanspoon, Who Has the Biggest Brain?, and Whrrl. The new titles work completely under Facebook Connect for the iPhone. The package can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store.
