1GB USIM Card is coming soon!

Posted in iPhone News by admin. Published April 27th, 2009

KTF, one of Korean mobile network provider announced new type of USIM card which can store data up to 1GB. They announced 256MB and 512MB version first and 1GB will be developed within this year. They are targeting to release 3 type of USIM card by end of this year.

USIM card usually hold about 144KB to 800KB max so, we are able to store phonebooks to USIM card not other contents in mobile phones. Some of you may complain 1GB USIM is meaning less since we are seeing 16GB microSD also coming these days. However, you should know microSD card has limit to access or download mobile contents that we¡¯ve played at mobile phone. And, some of mobile phone is available without microSD slot which you cannot store or carrying many of your contents if your internal memory already exceeds to max.

Most of you should have experiences that lose mobile games installed in your mobile phones memory which unable to copy or transfer to newer phone. Yes, you can able to transfer mp3, photo or movie clips saved in mobile phones.

With this, new USIM card you can download and install those mobile games directly to USIM card since it has enough capacity to store those game contents. If you have 512MB USIM card, it can store 140 mp3 files or approx. 200 mobile games and, data accessing speed also improved about 100 times by adopt USB solution.

It¡¯s bit surprise that mobile network provider developed this kind of products, and this we can call ¡°green-tech solution¡± as well. Now, you don¡¯t have to purchase USIM card when you switch or replace your mobile phones. This USIM is unlocked and have enough storage to carrying favor mobile games or applications you¡¯ve downloaded and some of mp3 and photos too.

I also have couple of USIM card in my desk drawer by switch carrier or mobile phones. Also, copying those stored datas like phone book and else is very much annoying too. Since smartphone isn¡¯t popular in Korea right now, which mean most of Korean mobile user need to transfer those data every time they replace their mobile phone. Yes, this work usually done by mobile shop¡¯s staff but these days we shopping mobile phones from internet which mean you are unable to get their help on this data transfer. We have about 0.2% of smartphone users among whole mobile phone users in Korea. Without importing iPhone, I don¡¯t think this stats change dramatically as 10 or 15%.
