Market source reports from Taiwanese trade mags are best taken with a grain of salt, if not an entire salt flat — particularly if they concern Apple (AAPL).
That said, Digitimes claim today that Cupertino has ordered a bunch of 3.2-megapixel CMOS image sensors for its next-generation iPhone seem entirely reasonable if only because the device’s current camera is so poor (remember, these days some Japanese cell phones are packing upwards of 8 megapixel cameras).
It also lends a bit of heft to rumors that the forthcoming iPhone revision will support video recording. Interestingly, Apple is also reported to have ordered a number of 5-megapixel sensors as well. Just what it plans to do with them is unknown. Perhaps, slap them in that e-book tablet it’s developing?
