With the Apple iPhone being the most popular item out there, being sold only by AT&T; things are about to change with Verizon trying to gain a relationship with Apple to create an iPhone by 2010.
Verizon is discussing on an iPhone lite, which is a smaller and thinner version of what AT&T sells today. Another vision that Verizon has for the future is a device that is being called a media pad. This set would carry a HD video, photo, music and will allow calls over Wi-Fi. Rumors say that both of these new items will carry a system on a chip. It is a single chip that has a combination of a processor with necessary graphics, controllers and various other components.
The GSM network for AT&T has been one of the weak points to the current iPhone. Users are complaining that the about the reliability and speeds from the 3G. The favor that Verizon might carry for Apple to be attracted to them, is Verizon’s great coverage and network reliability. Verizon is looking at updating their wireless network to a 4G from a 3G. AT&T also is working on getting 4G network.
If Apple does decide to work with Verizon, it would be the very first CDMA-based iPhone and with AT&T trying hard to keep with Apple, it would put an end to their exclusive relationship. Apple and AT&T’s contract ends in 2010, but rumors have said that AT&T is going to try to extend their exclusive contract together.
