ProClip Car Holder: iPhone Accessory Review

If you’re like me, you have your iPhone with you everywhere you go. This includes the car. Again, if you’re like me, you like to listen to music and us the Maps app, etc, while driving. It’s no fun to put your phone in the cupholder or somewhere else inconvenient, where you can hardly see the screen. Enter the ProClip car mount.

The ProClip system, has two parts. One is a holder for your specific device. The other is the mount for your specific vehicle. Each costs in the neighborhood of $30. What you get in the end, is the perfect mounting system that fits your car and device exactly.

ProClip sent me the Angled mount for my car, which fits right beside the stereo. The other options for my car were a vent mount and console mount. This one was good, because it’s high enough up that you can still see your device as you’re driving. The holder they sent me was the tilt swivel holder for the iPhone 3G. This one is a bit more expensive than the other options but tilting and swiveling is fairly important, so I’d highly recommend it.

Installation was fairly easy. ProClip provides detailed instructions and tools to do the job and all the tools needed. In my case, I had to pry out the plastic trim a little bit to slip the mount in. The holder screws on to the mount for a tight fit. The holder holds the iPhone very securely, even letting you view things in landscape mode.

The price is a little bit steep at over $60 for everything, but you can rest assured that the mount will look really clean in your car unlike some others that you stick onto a random surface. The only issue with it is that you need to take off any case you have your iPhone in as the holder is meant to fit a naked iPhone. Other than that though, this is a recommended product for anyone who drives with their iPhone.
