The Apple iPhone 3G S will be capable of games graphics “beyond” the Sony PSP Go, according to Michael Schade, head of mobile game developer Fishlabs.
Schade, speaking to Pocket Gamer, said that the Apple iPhone 3G S’s improved processing speed and adoption of “Open GL ES 2.0 support will push the iPhone beyond the PSP”.
Schade did warn that many cheaper Apple iPhone 3G S games wouldn’t see the benefit of the new Sony PSP Go-beating visuals, though: “As graphic assets need to be designed from scratch to benefit from 2.0 shaders, it will be very hard to monetize the extra effort in the early days.” So don’t expect to see improved visuals on “$0.99 apps”.
Fishlabs is known for the 3D visuals of its Apple iPhone games already, including Galaxy On Fire, Burning Tyres and Toy Tanks 3D. It is already at work on games with “extra high graphics settings to run on iPod Touch 2 and iPhone 3G S.” No word yet on Apple iPhone 3G S exclusive games yet, though.
