IGN pits the Pre against the iPhone 3G S

Two of the biggest smartphone launches this year will be those of the Palm Pre and the iPhone 3G S. The Pre launched a few weeks back and the iPhone 3G s is set to burn up the doors at AT&T Friday. IGN has a comparison of the two phones, and on paper, they are surprisingly similar to each other.

Both of the devices have 600MHz processor and both have 256MB of RAM. The iPhone gets more storage with 16GB or 32GB onboard to the Pre’s 8GB. The Pre works on a 3G CDMA network while the iPhone works on GSM network. The keyboards are a major difference with the iPhone having an on-screen keyboard and the Pre getting the slide out QWERTY unit.

The camera is a big difference between the two as well. The Pre gets a dual LED flash and the iPhone gets no flash. I guess Apple didn’t want to tax a battery that already draws complaints for runtime. The iPhone has a much more developed App Store but, both devices support apps. The handsets are even priced similarly with the 16GB iPhone and the Pre going for $199 while the 32GB iPhone sells for $299.
