If you read only a fraction of what’s being written about the iPhone 3GS, you have most likely read something that was wrong. We debunk a few myths.

1. iPhone 3GS is too expensive for existing customers
Many bloggers have cried out loud about the iPhone 3GS price point for existing customers. To some extent we agree, but an insightful story on the subject can be found over at Technologizer, however, explaining the basics of how carrier subsidies works.
2. Verizon Wireless would have been a better host for the iPhone 3GS
Verizon Wireless is the king of spectrum acquisitions, but does that automatically mean the iPhone 3GS would have worked well on Verizon Wireless? Actually no - it wouldn’t have worked at all. The iPhone 3GS is powered by a chipset that in no way could have been upgraded to work with Verizon Wireless’ network. Furthermore, if Verizon Wireless had ruled the world, the iPhone would never have been allowed to prove its potential in the first place.

3. The iPhone 3GS is a minor upgrade
At first sight, the iPhone 3GS might have looked like a minor upgrade, perhaps due to the huge focus on apps and services right now, but the iPhone 3GS is basically delivering many of the improvements that some, including us, had hoped to see already in the iPhone 3G. In other words, if you upgraded from the original last year, there shouldn’t be doubt in your mind about upgrading to the iPhone 3GS this year.
