A new device allowing credit card payments to be conducted via iPhone has been launched by a US-based firm.
CellCharge, which specialises in mobile credit card deals, has expanded its product range to include the popular Apple device.
The new service is aimed at small and home-based businesses which might not have the means to afford credit card processing equipment such as swipe machines.
It could be used by vendors selling their wares at trade shows, car boot sales or flea markets.
The CellCharge service works by customers inputting credit card details directly into the iPhone, using applications which have already been downloaded to the device.
One of these, ProcessAway, even allows the buyer to leave a tip along with their payment.
“CellCharge is thrilled to be able to add iPhone capabilities to their extensive list of services,” the firm said in a statement.
“Transactions [can] now be processed wherever you need them … [you] can input a customer’s credit card information and get paid right on the spot.”
Mobile phone retailer O2 announced earlier this year that 1m iPhones had been sold in the UK so far.
