A few hours ago the iPhone Dev team released the redsn0w tool for jailbreaking your first-gen iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the iPod touch first and second generation, while the iPhone 3G S has yet to be jailbroken. The unlock tool is available for Mac OS X and Windows, and it’s available on torrents now. Please note that the redsn0w for Windows has been re-released due to a bug and it went live a few minutes ago while this article was being wrote.
Before going crazy and rushing into unlocking your iPhone, you should read the full post along with the indications from the iPhone Dev team. I repeat: please do NOT jailbreak your iPhone without reading this article and without knowing the consequences. According to the iPhone Dev team, redsn0w’s functionality resembles the functionality of QuickPWN, but if you would like to build some custom firmware then you should use PwnageTool for Mac OS X.
It’s easy to unlock iPhone OS 3.0 on your iPhone 2G/3G and iPod touch first/second generation with redsn0w, but you should pay attention to this.
1. First of all, if you are using yellowsn0w to get cellular service for your iPhone 3G then you should wait for an updated version of redsn0w. Also ultrasn0w is coming soon via Cydia and Icy therefore you should wait and NOT lock your baseband on iPhone 3G. If you are using a first-gen iPhone, then redsn0w will do the trick for you.
2. Please note that yellowsn0w will not do the trick for you and the baseband will not work with the iPhone OS 3.0 therefore you should wait for ultrasn0w which is coming SOON. Please note that ultrasn0w will unlock all iPhones besides the 3G S, but it will unlock all previously unlockable units. Ultrasn0w is coming soon via Cydia and Icy.
3. Redsn0w unlocks iPhones and iPod touch (1st and 2nd gen) running the iPhone OS 3.0, but not the 3G S.
Please read the instructions at the iPhone Dev blog here.

Download redsn0w 0.7.1 for Windows here.
According to the iPhone Dev Twitter account, if redsn0w 0.7 for Windows worked for you then you won’t have to run the redsn0w 0.7.1 for Windows. The redsn0w 0.7.1 fixed a “human bug.”
“The ‘bug’ was human, we didn’t include the GUI application in 0.7 and we did in 0.7.1 If 0.7 was successful for you don’t need to run 0.7.1,” said the iPhone Dev team via Twitter.
