Opera’s mobile browsers (including Opera Mobile and Opera Mini) are now more popular than iPhone’s Safari browser.
Reuters says that, according to the Web analytics firm StatCounter, Opera’s browsers were used more than Safari during May.
Reportedly, 24.6% of the total Web pages downloaded last month to phones were downloaded via a Opera browser, and only 22.3% via Apple’s Safari.
Of course, Opera’s software is distributed via many carriers and many handsets, while Safari is being used only on the iPhone and iPhone 3G.

The third place in mobile browsers is taken by Nokia, which accounts for 17.9% of the market.
The StatCounter report is based on about 4 billion Web pages that were loaded during May.
