Steve Jobs recovering nicely, $99 iPhone may come soon

Steve Jobs is on track to return to the helm of Apple this month after nearly six months of medical leave, according a report in The Wall Street Journal that cited unnamed sources.

It could be perfect timing considering that Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference will be on Monday in San Francisco, however, it’s not clear whether Jobs will make an appearance at the event.

Jobs, 54, announced in January that he would be stepping down temporarily from the chief executive post while recuperating from a hormone imbalance, and said he would return by the end of June.

At last years Worldwide Developers Conference, Job’s drew a lot of attention concerning his dramatic weight loss. At the time, Apple insisted that Jobs’ health was a private matter but revealed in early January that Jobs was suffering from a hormone imbalance that was impeding his body’s ability to absorb certain proteins.

However, the possibility of Steve Job’s recovery, this is good news for Apple’s fans. After all, it was Jobs that masterminded Apple’s best-selling products — the iconic iPod, the iPhone, and the MacBook Air — a product trio that returned Apple to a leading position in the electronics industry.

It is widely rumored that Apple will unveil an iPhone cheaper than the current $199, analysts told the Financial Times, one that sells for $99 or $149. Apple may also potentially unveil new iPods or Mac computers.
