I’ve had an iPhone for several months now. If you’ve got one, you know how great those little apps (applications) are. There seems to be an app for everything. Except gardening!

Oh, I’ve searched online and found a couple (Landscapedia is one), but they have TERRIBLE reviews. During that online search, I discovered many, many comments on this topic at another blog called “Garden Rant”. The ideas these folks have come up with! Here’s a sampling:
1. Fine Gardening’s Pronounciation Guide. I don’t know about you, but they didn’t even OFFER Latin when I was in high school. I fake it more often that not when speaking “Botanese”.
2. Searchable Database of Perennials. Photos and hardiness zones, sun/shade requirements, special cultivation techniques — how handy would this be?
3. Weed Finder. Know your enemy.
4. Farmer’s Almanac.
5. Poisonous vs Edible Wild Plants. Euell Gibbons would be proud.
6. Gardener’s Journal. A quick entry on a calendar app that would let you see when you last applied lawn fertilizer, when the first rose bloomed, last frost date, etc.
7. Bug ID. Would be most useful if the app gave you organic vs. chemical control ideas.

So what do you think? Couldn’t we convince one of the big catalog outlets to come up with something like this? They could have a little ad with a link to their website right in the app. It would be a win-win for them, right?
