Apple has certainly had a record third quarter this year with revenue of US$8.34bn and a net quarterly profit of US$1.23bn and this is in no small part due to phenomenal iPhone sales. What does this mean for us mere mortals? Well, because they are selling like hotcakes there is a shortage.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: “We’re thrilled to have sold over 5.2 million iPhones during the quarter,” but supply cannot meet the large demand says Apple.
As reported on the BBC website Apple CEO Tim Cook said: “The demand has been staggering almost in every country that we’ve shipped in.”
Despite this shortage Apple is working to meet demand and will continue with plans to launch the 3G S in 20 more countries worldwide from this August.
Meanwhile here in Ireland the O2.ie website is not yet offering the white edition, which appears to be in short supply globally.
