A Telltale games developer, responsible for the new Monkey Island games has claimed that the iPhone is more powerful than the Nintendo Wii

A Telltale games programmer has commented on the publisher’s forum that in his experience with programming for the Nintendo Wii’s Wiiware service, the iPhone is a more powerful gaming device than the Wii.
To give his full quote, Yare commented that in dealing with The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition’s technical issues, “Frame rate issues will probably get sorted out eventually, but keep in mind that the Wii is just not a powerful console. An iPhone is much more powerful than a Wii, even.”
Comments about frame rate issues in the Wii version of The Secret of Monkey Island have been fairly widespread, while we didn’t notice any real slowdown when reviewing the iPhone version. Of course, Yare’s claims need to be taken with a sprinkling of salt – although the iPhone may have certain bandwidth capabilities that we don’t know enough to comment on, we wouldn’t go expecting Wii-beating visuals on the iPhone any time soon.
After all, the Wii’s Monkey Island game is the new Tales of Monkey Island episodic game rather than the less hard-on-the-hardware Special Edition of the classic game. Still, it gives us iPhone gaming fans a reason to grin and look smug for a while.
