Apple Streams Concert on iPhone

Streaming concert on iPhone? Ha — whaaa?

That was my initial response when I heard Apple will stream a concert tonight at 9 p.m. Pacific Time by electronica band Underworld.

iphone musicApple promised streaming video capabilities months ago with the launch of iPhone OS 3.0. The HTTP-based streaming audio and video protocol picks the right bit-rate for your phone’s data connection quality.

The idea is if a lot of people want to watch a live event or a user loses a connection, Apple’s technology will be able to handle it on the fly.

Honestly, is there anything more annoying than dropping a connection while streaming live video from a cell-phone? Well, OK; maybe it’s as annoying as the fact you can use your iPhone to find “medical” Marijuana but not Google Voice.

It’s typical of Apple to promote fluffy features while seeming to ignore parts of the core user experience.

Ranting aside, to check out the concert, point your iPhone to underworldlive.com or iphone.akamai.com.

Oh, and by the way, don’t tell your friends. Apple doesn’t want to tax the AT&T network. Isn’t that considerate?
