A bug in the OS 3.0 version of the operating system for Apple’s iPhone makes it possible to recover emails even after they have been thrashed.
According to reports, this problem seems to affect the iPod Touch as well. Retrieving the “deleted” emails involves using the built-in Spotlight search tool, which leads me to think that the problem can probably be partially attributed to how Spotlight indexes these email prior to their deletion.
The problem has been fixed in iPhone OS 3.1 beta, though this incident does offer a glimpse of the impending security issues that will surely arise over time from the proliferation of gadgets and portable computers.
Do you ensure that data on your storage devices or gadgets are properly deleted?
