It doesn’t help you find drug dealers on the street, but a new iPhone application does, however, pinpoint where marijuana growers are located.
It’s not just the latest craze. Apple iPhones are best sellers nationwide, in part because of all those applications.
“What’s nice about the iPhone is that if you run into a friend and you want to share a photo, there’s an app for that,” says its ad.
And now, if you want to find someone to sell you marijuana, there’s an app for that, too.
Approved by Apple in mid-July, the Cannabis Application offers maps to your nearest medicinal pot growers and dispensaries, marijuana lawyers, and even pro-marijuana political groups.
According to the app’s creator, it doesn’t condone illegal or underage use; they just want to educate the public on the global hemp movement.
Pierre Warner, also known as Dr. Reefer in Las Vegas, loves the idea. Warner smokes marijuana for medical reasons and even hopes to design a similar app geared specifically toward Nevadans.
“This just puts more information at patients’ hands and it’s very convenient,” says Warner.
The app, however, is not without its opponents. Groups like Stop DUI says it only promotes the culture and can even be dangerous to teens.
“I think this is very distressing and I think parents should be extremely aware,” says Sandy Heverly, Stop DUI. “They should be checking those phones and making sure their children are not accessing the types of information that are on there.”
But just like photo features and GPS, information related to Cannabis is now just a touch away.
Apple reportedly approved the cannabis application because it only points to medical suppliers. Currently, 13 states, including Nevada, have laws that make medicinal marijuana legal.
