There are tens of thousands of mobile apps out there, downloaded over a billion times. When an app comes out that really does something well, the public jumps all over it.
Enter PicPosterous for the iPhone. As a simple app, PicPosterous makes sharing photos really, really simple. Now, there are other apps that allow for the sharing and posting of photos, like TwitPic, the Facebook app, and a host of Flickr posting apps. PicPosterous, however, can share to them all immediately and simultaneously.
Whaaaat? Yes, take a photo with your iPhone, either by the regular iPhone camera app or using the PicPosterous camera, and the photo can be shared to a whole host of sites at the same time. That by itself is simply amazing! Imagine one app for sharing photos replacing all the other photo sharing apps on the iPhone.
PicPosterous also allows the sharing of video on video capable phones. Albums can be created on the fly and subsequent photos can be placed within an existing album or a new one at any time. PicPosterous also creates an online gallery with a URL and registering at PicPosterous isn’t even necessary. The online gallery is a simple javascript enabled gallery that allows viewers to easily browse through the photos in that gallery. Video is viewed through a Flash player when viewed in a browser or Quicktime when viewed through Mobile Safari on the iPhone. PicPosterous does all the work of converting, resizing, and hosting of everything sent through the app. Again, simply amazing.

To top it off, photos can be posted privately, requiring a password to view. They can be automatically geo-tagged, which can be turned off through the app if desired. The app also handles all uploading, caching uploads if the app is exited prior to photos or videos completing the upload. Photos and videos can also be e-mailed directly to various sites individually, in combinations, or not at all, just posting to the Posterous gallery. A post can even be done to a supported XML-RPC or Metaweblog API site. PicPosterous does it all and does it well.
As mentioned, registering a PicPosterous site isn’t necessary, but in doing so, all photos and created albums can be imported into a user gallery for easy management and navigation. Did I mention it was free? Of course, I registered. My Posterous profile is: Kaymee Photography
Finally, PicPosterous also supports e-mailed photos from the Android operating system as well. It uses PixelPipe for Android to post images, video, and status updates to Posterous.
PicPosterous is an incredible app. Multiple apps are no longer needed to post the same photo or video to multiple sites. That, in itself, is simply, well, dare I say, amazing, again?
