Sennheiser is German company that specializes in high end audio equipment like microphones, headphones and more. Of course they did not forget iPhone users, and have a wide selection of audio products for your phone. One of their products is relatively inexpensive headset Sennheiser MM 50.
MM 50 is very well made and looks stylish. Shiny black rounded plastic with Sennheiser logo, together with a small metal ring on the front. Since the earphones are small they might look a little fragile but I am sure it’s not the case. These are one of the tiniest earphones I’ve ever used. Once you put them in ear, they don’t stick out. Very discrete! Sennheiser engineers must have worked really hard to make this happen.
The cables, on the other hand are a bit thin, and look like they might break. I tested the unit and tried pulling them hard but nothing happened, which means that they are stronger than they look.
These headphones feature asymmetric cable which means it is shorter for the left ear, and longer for the right. Since all the weight falls onto one ear, occasionally, if the cable gets stuck onto something, left earphone might fall out. This is not much of an issue if you are careful. Apart from that ear buds stay in the ear quite well, even if you wear them while running. There are three differently sized ear sleeves provided for perfect fit (large, medium and small). On the good side, asymmetric design removes wire clutter which you usually get with standard wiring.
These headphones also come with a microphone and a button to answer calls or change tracks. I did not particularly like mic’s design: it is made from different (not-shiny) plastic, and it feels a bit large. Button however is well positioned and easy to press. Still it could be more stylish.
Now speaking of earphone quality; it’s Sennheiser we are talking about here, so it’s bound to be good. And to no surprise it is. They feature excellent well balanced bass. Highs are a bit on the weaker side, since they feel a bit too loud at times. But other than that I had no issues with MM 50. Even on high volume, sound is reproduced perfectly.
I was amazed that the noise blocking works as good on these tiny earphones. Even in a noisy environment I could hear my music or talk on the phone, and be heard!
One a side note, I would love if there was a small pouch included to carry these earphones while not in use. It would certainly prolong their life. Hopefully Sennheiser will do that for the future models.
Overall I am quite satisfied with these earphones. If you want to change your underpowered Apple earphones, and you are not looking for high end and expensive earphones, yet you want to hear superior sound, these might be just for you. With great sound quality and pleasant style you will enjoy them for many months. Sennheiser also gives two years warranty for them.
