Aardvark’s iPhone app is late, but welcome

Aardvark, a service that lets you ask questions and get answers from your personal network, has emerged from Apple’s mystery approval process with a free iPhone app in the iTunes Store.

No need to join yet another social network to use Aardvark. It will connect to your Facebook account to post your questions there, among the contacts you’ve probably spent months collecting whether you wanted to or not.

This version of the iPhone app doesn’t talk to Twitter, as Aardvark’s website does, but give it a few weeks. VentureBeat reported in March that the company was hiring search and mobile technology experts.

Will Aardvark cause friends to unfollow you? Probably not, if you pace yourself on sending questions. Just as important, Aardvark offers a one-stop shop for aspiring experts itching not to ask questions, but to answer them.

Aardvark, a San Francisco-based company founded in 2007 as Mechanical Zoo, has collected about $6 million, most of it in a $5.25 million Series A round led by August Capital in October 2008.
