BCE Inc.’s Bell Canada and Telus Corp. reached agreements with Apple Inc. to sell the iPhone, stepping up competition with Rogers Communications Inc., which has held the exclusive right to sell the device in Canada.

BCE, Canada’s largest phone company, and Vancouver-based wireless carrier Telus will begin offering the iPhone 3G and 3GS in November, the companies said in statements today.
BCE has been upgrading its network to work better with smart phones and revive sales in the wireless market. The company said its new network will cover 20,000 cities and towns across Canada, reaching about 93 percent of the population. Rogers has been the exclusive Canadian carrier of the iPhone for more than a year.
BCE rose 20 cents to C$26.50 at 9:33 a.m. in Toronto Stock Exchange trading. Telus gained 27 cents to C$34.23.
