NASA for iPhone arrives

If you’re a space junky, and we know you’re out there, it’s no longer a question of keeping up with and in touch with National Aeronautics and Space Administration news and happenings — it’s how close you can be and the continuity of the contact. Here’s a free tool for keeping your finger on the pulse when you’re away from a traditional or wi-fi internet connection.

The New Media Team at NASA Ames Research Center has developed the first NASA for iPhone (iTunes, free), which is designed to deliver up-to-the-minute NASA content directly from the agency itself, including video, audio, articles and multimedia content. That means the delivery is likely to be extremely dry, but for the hardcore space nut this is to be expected.

The software makes extensive use of built-in iPhone features and usability to offer NASA information in a clear and intuitive way. The application aggregates and delivers a compelling range of dynamically updated information, images and video links. The NASA App is available free of charge on the App Store from Apple directly to the iPhone and iPod Touch or within iTunes.

There’s also the NASA Media Aggregator (iTunes, $0.99), which is an RSS aggregator and provides easy access to official agency audio feeds, such as Science@NASA, This Week @NASA and much more.
