Sybase Advances iPhone Adoption for Database and mBanking Solutions

Sybase, Inc., a provider of enterprise and mobile software, has released new product offerings for the iPhone (News - Alert) as a platform for mobile banking for both internal employees and external end users. The new capabilities enable secure device management, rich application development, as well as a complete solution for mobile banking.

Sybase’s (News - Alert) new iPhone support includes components of its comprehensive mobile platform. Afaria now provides enterprise device management and policy enforcement for iPhone. SQL Anywhere database and synchronization technology allows a scalable way to extend information in enterprise relational databases to line of business applications running on iPhone devices. To meet the growing demand of consumers for mobile banking solutions, the company announced its mobile banking iPhone application through the Sybase mBanking 365 platform.

Afaria 6.5, a key component of the Sybase’s comprehensive mobile platform, comprises new hosting options via a secure multi-tenant infrastructure, enhanced security updates, and a new policy based model for enabling simplified device management across a range of platforms and smartphone devices including iPhone.

Jack Gold, president of J.Gold Associates, LLC, said that, while Apple (News - Alert) has made significant progress in making the latest version of iPhone enterprise-ready, there are still a number of challenges in provisioning, management, security and application enablement.

“To achieve true enterprise-class capability, companies should deploy a comprehensive, open, third-party mobility platform capable of filling these gaps,” Gold said. “Solutions like Sybase’s mobility platform not only support companies looking to proactively deploy iPhones but also to respond to the rapidly growing population of information workers bringing personally-owned smartphones into the enterprise.”

Mort Rosenthal, CEO of Enterprise Mobile, a mobility systems integrator and outsource, said that the popularity of the iPhone and speed at which it has entered the workplace magnifies the challenges of managing and supporting the growing diversity of device types in the enterprise.

“Today’s announcement exemplifies Sybase’s proven history of rapidly meeting customer demand through open, best-in-class solutions,” Rosenthal said. “We are confident that our strategy and enterprise mobility services are future-proof with Sybase.”

Raj Nathan, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Sybase, said that the company is expanding its iPhone offerings with advanced enterprise-ready features consistent with Apple’s direction.

“As an increasing number of consumers bring personal smartphones into the enterprise, there is a greater need to extend high levels of application performance, functionality and security to a wider range of mobile devices,” Nathan said. “Sybase continues to deliver the technology that customers require to fully embrace mobility within their enterprises.”

Sybase offers new capabilities like device management and database and enterprise synchronization.

Also, Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase announced availability of its mobile banking iPhone application through the Sybase mBanking 365 platform. BBVACompass ( News - Alert) is one of the first adopters of the mBanking iPhone application. Sybase also announced the latest release of Afaria.
