Sky comes to iPhone, O2 customers get 3 months free

Posted in iPhone News by admin. Published November 10th, 2009

First it came to Xbox 360 (eventually), and now Sky has launched a live TV iPhone app that will allow users to get exclusive access to Sky Sports and news channels.

Even better news is that O2 users will be able to get the app for free for the first three months, giving Orange another run for its money on the day it finally gets its hands on Apple’s handset.

Users will be able to stream Premiership matches on their phone over Wifi from Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3, as well as get access to Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Extra, Sky News, At The Races and ESPN.

After the three month free period you’ll need to cough up £6 a month, but that’s still a bargain for sports fans who can’t afford the full Sky TV service.

It’s worth noting that you will need wireless connectivity to stream the content, and won’t work over 3G so make sure you get yourself near a hotspot when there’s a big match on.

O2 users can sign up for the three free months by texting “Sky” to 2020, and will get reminder messages about the £6 per month charge before it happens.

Of course Orange iPhone users can also sign up for the service, but will have to pay the £6 per month from the get go.

What do you think to the new app, and will you be giving it a try? Let us know below.
