Web video sharing site Vimeo has just announced it’s opening up support for the iPhone and Android handsets, with dedicated apps on the way. Want to know what you can and can’t see with it? Read on.
Almost every video on YouTube runs on the iPhone, but now Flash streaming rival Vimeo will also work on the Apple phone along with Android, it’s announced. Initially, only the Vimeo team’s picks and videos from the HD showcase will be transcoded to be viewable on either, but within the coming months Vimeo will also offer Vimeo Plus members the ability to upload their clips in an iPhone friendly format too.
That’s just the start though, with the Vimeo director of community Blake Whitman promising “in the future, an app”, although no specific time frame for its arrival in the iPhone App Store or Android Market.
You should be able to watch any Vimeo videos that are mobile friendly now, with supported clips appearing in a special mobile adapted page.
