Lawsuits are always messy affairs, and now St. Clair Intellectual Property Consultants (SCIPC) is suing Apple, claiming that Apple’s popular iPhone infringes upon several digital camera patents.

The company’s track record probably would worry Apple slightly, as it scored a $35 million payout from Canon back in 2003 and a $25 million prize from Sony back in 2001.
There isn’t any word as to whether Apple will fight or settle this case, but companies such as LG, Motorola, and Sanyo have chosen to pay SCIPC licensing fees for use of its patented technology instead of going to trial.
