A new study from Nielsen indicates Apple’s iPhone was the single most popular handset in the U.S. in 2009, garnering 4 percent of all mobile device subscribers.

The iPhone beat out Research in Motion’s BlackBerry 8300 series, which accounts for 3.7 percent of all mobile device owners. Nielson’s study measured the top 10 mobile phones in use in the country from January to October. The Motorola RAZR V3 series came in third, while the LG VX9100 enV2 came in fourth.
Overall, BlackBerry devices took a larger overall share. The BlackBerry Storm, came in seventh with 1.4 percent, and the 8100 series, including the Pearl, came in tenth with 1.2 percent.
