While the global spread of Apple’s iPhone is still increasing, it would appear the touch-screen smartphone is losing its gloss in existing markets. Specifically, the tech gurus over at Time magazine have just released their Top 10 Gadgets of 2009 list, and the iPhone has been deposed by Motorola’s Droid handset.

What’s more, not just succumbing to the Droid, which is supported by Verizon and carries Google’s open-source Android operating system, Apple’s rival platform was pushed down to fourth on the list thanks to Barnes & Noble’s second-placed Nook electronic book reader and Dyson’s third-placed bladeless Air Multiplier.
The Canon EOS-1D Mark IV digital SLR rounded out the first five positions, thanks to the camera’s impressive performance and its ability to take perfect pictures in the dark, while the ultra-skinny Dell Adamo XPS notebook secured sixth.
The second notable camera offering to find traction on Time’s radar for 2009 was the compact but capable FinePix Real 3D W1. Placing seventh due to its twin lens technology, the Real 3D W1 snaps two versions of the same subject before overlaying the pictures to form a complete three-dimensional image.
Padding out the top ten movers and shakers on Time’s countdown were Casio’s near indestructible G-Shock GW7900B-1 wristwatch, the new and sassy Beats Solo headphones from Dr. Dre, and Panasonic’s gorgeous G10 series of Plasma high-definition televisions.
