Apples releases iPhone update

Apple have had a very busy week, releasing a software update for the iPhone and iPod touch on the back of launching the new iPad tablet computer. Designed to iron out a number of reported bugs, the OS 3.1.3 update won’t include any new features but will improve performance for many users.

The new update sorts out inaccuracies in the battery level indicator of Apple’s iPhone 3GS, as well as ensuring third-party applications load that previously refused to. Japanese iPhone owners will also see problems with their Kana alphabet keyboard ironed out.

The software developers have cracked down on “jailbreaking”, or hacking and modifying, the software in order to use a different operating system not authorised by Apple or run apps not downloaded through the Apple app store. The 3.1.3 update is, so far, immune to jailbreaking.

To download the new OS 3.1.3 update, connect your device to iTunes.
