Yahoo Inc. on Tuesday unveiled an application for iPhone and iPod Touch users that will search for local restaurants on a map in an area outlined by the user’s finger.

The free “Sketch-a-Search” app was made available on Apple Inc.’s iTunes store on Tuesday.
The application will work in the U.S. initially and provide more search categories in the near future, the company said.
Users can draw a circle, line or any shape to see what restaurants are in an area or on a street. They can then click through to read reviews, see photos, get directions or make a phone call.
Yahoo also released a more general free search application for the iPhone.
In both programs, shaking the phone clears the results to start a new query.
The announcements were made at the CTIA Wireless 2010 convention in Las Vegas.
Microsoft Corp.’s Bing search engine is to power Yahoo search results in a partnership expected to kick off later this year or next year.
Yahoo shares were down 24 cents at $16.10 in midday trading Tuesday.
