Rejoice fellow countrymen, the wait is finally over. Telecom giant Bharti Airtel has announced that it will bring iPhone 4 in India by October. The Times of India quoted Bharti Airtel COO Sanjay Kapoor saying, “We are working with Apple. Hopefully, we will launch it in the September-October time frame.” So apparently, we’ll get to see the shiny new iPhone 4 device at the Diwali time this year. This doesn’t come like a shock as we know that the telecom major did introduce iPhone 3G around two years back. We hope to see better exclusive (read: affordable) data plans along with the handsets.
The iPhone 3GS was introduced on March 26, 2010 in India by Airtel and its rival Vodafone. We believe that introduction of iPhone 4 might affect the sales of iPhone 3GS in India. However, that equation is based more or less on the basis of pricing of both models in India. The 32GB iPhone 3GS model is available for a hefty Rs. 41,500 but we hope to see some price cut for the iPhone 3GS models. When iPhone 3GS was introduced, the price of iPhone 3G was slashed by Rs. 1,500 in India.
Just in case you don’t know what iPhone 4 brings then do take a look at the features it offers. Also, new iOS 4.0 update brings a bunch of features. We believe Vodafone will also bring iPhone 4 for its subscribers at the same time.
Considering the fact that India is a price-conscious market, a lot depends on how the new iPhone 4 is priced in India. Indians have seen the iPods and the iPhones. This new device would be a novelty but if it’s way too costly, then it would be looked upon as a luxury purchase for few. Let’s wait for the official dates and prices.
Apple just held the Antennagate conference to address the rising antennae issue with the freshly released iPhone 4 models. The company also offered to give away Bumper cases for free to users who would like to have one. Will you buy the iPhone 4 when it is officially launched in India? Leave us a comment and let us know.
