IPhone -”Jailbreaking” Your iPhone Won’t Land You in Jail Anymore

The FCC announced Monday that the once-illegal - albeit controversial - practice of “jailbreaking” cell phones is now legal. According to Yahoo News, even though Apple seriously frowns upon it, there are about a million iPhone users that have successfully jailbroken their iPhones.

Even though this process was, “technically illegal,” no one was prosecuted whatsoever for jailbreaking a mobile phone.

Jailbreaking is known as the practice of “breaking into” your phone so that it can be used either by another network (like iPhones that run on T-Mobile) or allow it to use other applications than the ones that are approved by Apple or another mobile provider.

While there are already inlaid consequences with this method – like voiding your phone’s warranty; it no longer includes jail time.

Tech writer Christopher Null agrees that most jailbroken phones are found on the T-Mobile network or other overseas carriers and that some of the applications that can be used on a jailbroken phone include “Safari ad-blocking apps, alternate keyboard layouts, or programs that chance the interface to the iPhone’s SMS system and the way the icons are laid out.”

Apple has begun allocating iPhone 4 bumpers to address concerns that touching certain parts of the handset chokes mobile signal strength.
