Samsung Captivate For AT&T Now Shipping [AT&T's Samsung Galaxy S Variant, The Samsung Captivate, Is Now Shipping For $199.99]
Samsung has long been not only one of the world’s top electronics manufacturers in general but also one of the world’s top hand set manufacturers. They have some of the greatest televisions on the market and are looking to expand that into the mobile phone sector. As of late, the company hasn’t had any really hard hitting phones (besides the Samsung Omnia II, among a few others) but thanks to their shift to Android, they have promised that will all change soon enough.

And change it has, back in March Samsung stepped forth to formally announce the Galaxy S – their Android powered super phone set to compete head to head with today’s hottest smart phones such as the HTC EVO 4G, and the Apple iPhone 4.

If you’re not familiar with this device it features a 4-inch AMOLED capacative touchscreen display, a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording along with a front facing VGA camera, Android 2.1 with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 UI, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, proximity sensors, 8 or 16GB of internal storage, a microSD slot for 32GB of additional storage, TV out functionality and GPS.
However, while Galaxy S would be its international name, it would be its name for the North American versions. In fact, in North America, the Samsung Galaxy S was announced to be sharing several different names, all for different carriers. This would include the Samsung Vibrant for T-Mobile, and the Samsung Captivate for AT&T. Both featuring different names but both featuring the exact same specs, as listed above.
If you’ve been following the Captivate for AT&T you probably already know this but if not, let me be the first to tell you – the Samsung Captivate is available now on AT&T for $199 with a 2-year contract or $499 if you’re going to buy it outright.
With the antenna fiasco surrounding the iPhone 4, this phone couldn’t have come at a better time.
