Android Users Click on Mobile Ads More Than iPhone Owners

Do you want to get a smartphone user to click on your ad? Consider targeting Android users, according to a new study.

People using phones that run the Android OS click on ads 81 percent more often than people on the iPhone, according to online ad network Chitika. Examining click rates across the Chitika network, the company found that “Android users are by far more valuable individually than iPhone users.”

Based on a sample of about 1.4 million users, click-through rates for iPhone users was about 0.65 percent, while rates for Android users were at 1.19 percent. Chitika ads display in the same manner on Android phones and the iPhone, the company said.

“As Android continues to grow in market share, it will be interesting to see how this figure changes,” Chitika wrote in a blog post. “For now, however, it is obvious that Android users should be high up on the list of targets for mobile advertisers.”

Though iPhone users were not very likely to click on ads, users on the iPad were not as hesitant. The Apple tablet had a click-through rate of 1 percent, Chitika said.

“This may be chalked up to the difference in display size,” the company said.
