Verizon iPhone rumored to have better antennae and processor

The Verizon iPhone rumors have continued to slam the web at a furious pace, and the latest is that the Verizon iPhone is going to be a revamped better functioning iPhone 4 than was previously released. Much to the chagrin of those who have already purchased an iPhone 4, if the rumors are true - which is looking like a very strong possibility - their brand spanking new iPhone 4 is about to be the ugly step sister. The newest Verizon iPhone 4 upgrade rumor centers around the processor and antennae.

The iPhone 4 reception problems are now legendary, and the free iPhone 4 bumpers that went out at least point to Apple admitting the problem was real enough to spend money to create a band-aid fix. It would only make sense that any new model of the iPhone 4 would have some sort of upgrade in that area. According to a source that claims to have handled a prototype, the Verizon iPhone being developed will have an internal antennae.

So far as has leaked to this point, that seems to have corrected the reception problem and put an end to the death grip. With that change however, the physical design has been changed enough - allegedly - that the Verizon iPhone is rumored to be coming out under a different name. The suspected reason for this which makes sense is twofold. In part, Apple would like to have a unit to put on the market that can be marketed as wholly new. The second part is that by marketing the Verizon iPhone under a different name, AT&T can still claim an exclusive on the iPhone 4 brand which may help quell their pain over losing the exclusive on the iPhone line.

The processor has supposedly been amped up to 1.2GHz, but still use the A4 chip. There have also been rumors that certain features will be missing when the new iPhone - whatever name it is tagged with - goes to Verizon. It isn’t believed they will hold back anything hugely significant, but the scuttlebutt is Apple is trying to find a way to keep strong ties with AT&T while still spreading their wings to other carriers.

According to John Gruber who is one of the most noted Apple gurus on the web, the Verizon iPhone version is already deep in the testing phase - or at least an iPhone that is CDMA. He was very quick to point out that it is entirely possible that the iPhone CDMA in the works could be going abroad. Everyone believes this version is for Verizon as the testing schedule seems to indicate it would be ready for a January 2011 delivery, but Apple always has something up their sleeve. It has even been rumored Apple is cutting a deal with Sprint and not Verizon to be the new iPhone carrier.

Whether any of this rumor proves true will be unknown until a beta is lost in a bar, gym, or mysteriously appears in Asia prompting a slew of YouTube videos. Kidding aside, it is expected that a late October to early November announcement will be made as to just where the new iPhone will land with some minimal details on specs to try to keep those consumers on the fence thinking of jumping on the Froyo update at bay. A Verizon executive speaking off the record was alleged to say however that the iPhone coming to Verizon was inevitable, and that he expects they will sell a million or more units on the launch day.
