iPhone app reviews: Tris

Tris Match lite is a match three puzzle game app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It was created by Hae Zhe XU and costs 2.99 for the full version though the lite version is free.

This app lets you control the shapes which are dropping in a minority different way than many of the others. This is something that is very easy to find in the iTunes app store and this does feel different than most of the match three games.

You can in many ways blame, or credit almost the entirety of the
iTunes game library to tetris and more recently with games like
bejeweled. It is really amazing how many different versions of these
games exist. The most popular of the are the match three games. Even
more impressive than the number of these games though are the number of
different variations on the theme because the truth is that these are
very similar in many ways. They are typically on a grid, have roughly
the same number of different types of symbols and yet they are able to
find new ways. In the case of Tris Match you have three object fall and
you can control where they are put as well as the order of those rather
than many of the others.

When you open this app you will begin by
having a few different flashing blocks. These blocks are the ones that
you need to remove. As you advance more of these blocks will appear and
while at first this seems like a pretty minor increase in difficulty but
as you advance you will find groups of them together which makes it
very difficult as you advance. This is more or less the entire game and
while it seems simple the fact that you can match them in straight rows
or diagonal which helps a lot.

The graphics and sound of this app
are average to below for the iPhone as the symbols are very simple and
there is little or no background. This works fine but it is not going to
impress anyone.

The controls of this app are at the bottom of
the screen and while it works fine the button to drop it is on the
outside while the turn button is far far to easy to push the down button
rather than the one you mean to.

This app gets two out of five stars because of poor control design and a moderately good idea.
