iPhone app with augmented reality

Available for the iPhone, mTrip is a travel guide and more. It uses the latest in smart phone technology to help travelers stay on track.

WHAT YOU GET: One of the key features is augmented reality. When you turn on the app and hit the augmented reality button, you get icons showing you more details on nearby points of interest. You can also find out what restaurants are nearby, whether they are open and what reviewers are saying.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A review by The Associated Press concludes that while the app offered good restaurant selections and shopping options, augmented reality still feels like it hasn’t fully arrived. The technology can generally pinpoint location to within 30 feet if you’re outdoors, but inside you’re lost. Businesses that appear on screen aren’t necessarily in front of you, just nearby.
