Last exclusive iPhone carrier in Europe about to lose hold, says WSJ

A Wall Street Journal article reported today that Deutsche Telekom (T-mobile) is losing iPhone exclusivity in Germany, probably by the time the holiday season arrives.

Sources say Vodafone and O2 Germany are getting into position, negotiating to snap up the smartphone. If true, that would bring the total count of iPhone providers in that country to three.

Three iPhone carriers?! Could you imagine? Maybe sooner than we think, American users will get to see what that’s like firsthand. Rumors of the iPhone going to T-mobile, Verizon and even Sprint have been going on for years — to such a degree that most of us who follow these things are pretty jaded at this point. But with this, the end of Europe’s last exclusivity deal, could things actually be snapping into focus now? If this is any indication of where Apple’s mindset is, then maybe — just maybe — one of these rumors could pan out sooner rather than later.
