Apple iPhone leaps in Smartphone Rankings

According to a recent report Apple is now the world’s fourth largest mobile phone supplier, as per the records of the “Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker” reports IDC.

Facts suggest that the shipments of the iPhone 4, which was released on U. S. market at the start of the summer, Apple has grown over most of the vendors in most of the other mobile phone vendors, landing in fourth place ahead of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion.

Q3 results states that Apple shipped 14.1 million phones, 1.7 million more than RIM and 3.7 million more than Sony Ericsson, which resulted to be one of the top five since 2004. The quarter results also add to the fact that the iPhone 4 reached 17 additional nations worldwide.

Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, said, “The entrance of Apple to the top 5 vendor ranking underscores the increased importance of smartphones to the overall market. Moreover, the mobile phone makers that are delivering popular smartphone models are among the fastest growing firms. Vendors that aren’t developing a strong portfolio of smartphones will be challenged to maintain and grow market share in the future.”
