iOS 4.2 Promises to Improve iPhone 3G Performance

The software update which is rumored to arrive on November 12 will improve the iOS device performances

Apple updates have a tendency to be favorable only to the latest iOS devices - iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Now, with iOS 4.2 on the anvil, every iOS device owner would be interested to know what’s in store for them. Rene Ritchie of TiPb blog noted that iOS 4.2 does improve iPhone 3G performance. We don’t see a blazing fast improvement but at least it would be decent enough for several gestures.

Last week, a disgruntled Bianca Wofford from San Diego had filed a lawsuit against Apple saying that the iOS 4 software update makes the iPhone 3G “virtually unusable, constantly slowed, crashed or frozen”.

Apparently, iOS 4 did render some damage to iPhone 3G’s performance and Apple promised to fix that with iOS 4.1 software update. But iOS 4.1 didn’t do much to the iPhone 3G’s performance. Now, the upcoming iOS 4.2 is set to wipe off most listed issues related to performance. The iPhone 3G has 128MB RAM which is half of that found in iPhone 3GS.

Ritchie, in the blog post, noted that there was decent improvement in performance for usual gestures like scrolling, typing, pinch and zoom. Also, the iOS 4.2 will fix the iPhone lockcode security bypass bug that has been heavily bantered on the web.

But when is iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad releasing? German blog iPhone-Ticker.de is betting on November 12.
