A Very Special Promotion of the Doctor Who News iPhone App – Charity Appeal

Posted in iPhone News by admin. Published November 29th, 2010

The creator of the excellent Doctor Who News iPhone app has a special appeal underway – he’s raising money for cancer awareness until December 23rd.

I’ll let him explain it:

From today till the 23rd December all profits from the sale of WhoNews will be going to charity. 47 years ago the Doctor started his journeys through time and space and what better way to celebrate than watching an episode and kicking off my attempt to raise a pile of money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Your kind donations are already pushing WhoNews up the charts and I would like to say a big thank you for a great start.

To find out what it is all about take a look at the WhoNews Wish Appeal page

Charity appeal beside – it’s a great iPhone app and if you’re a Doctor Who fan – you’ll love it.

It only costs $3.99 and all proceeds until December 23rd go to charity.

Manhattan Declaration iPhone App: Freedom of Speech or Going Too Far?

Posted in iPhone News by admin. Published November 28th, 2010

A recently approved app available in the iTunes Store has many people up in arms, saying that the Manhattan Declaration app is anti-gay. The app, whose founders tout it as a “call of Christian conscience,” asks users to sign a nearly 5,000-word declaration written by Christian clergy and scholars.

It “speaks in defense of the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, and religious liberty,” and “issues a clarion call to Christians to adhere firmly to their convictions in these three areas.” It then allows users to add their digital signatures to the declaration.

App users can also choose to answer four “opinion” questions on topics like abortion and same-sex relationships, but upon choosing the undesired “opinion” option, are told they answered incorrectly.

Given Apple’s strict approval policies, I’m surprised that this one made it through. Though on the other hand, it could be considered free speech; obviously there is a market for this type of app in the marketplace. What do you think?
